GR IV firmware mods like GR Mod compared by body and risk, plus third-party GR apps and hardware. Mods that can freeze or brick a GR are Do not try.
Every GR firmware mod we found, by camera: Ricoh GR custom firmware.
- Ricoh GR IV — The body named by the GR IV firmware patchers published on GitHub on 7 Oct 2026.
- Ricoh GR III — The body named by the GR III firmware research repo and by the Wi-Fi photo-copy script.
- Ricoh GR IIIx — Named beside the GR III in the firmware research repo, and in a later note on the photo-copy script.
- gr-custom-tool — A local editor for crop ratios and the shutdown picture. It writes a new firmware file. The author says the public build targets official version 1.11.10.7, has not finished a test on a real camera, and that flashing the file can break the camera.
- GR Mod (Ricoh-GRMod) — A desktop app that writes a modified firmware file for the GR IV and GR IV HDF. It adds imported .xmp and .cube looks as new Image Control slots, extra crop ratios, soft focus, a date imprint and power-off pictures. Not a Ricoh product, and its own README records builds that froze the camera.
- GR4-XPanUnlock — The author describes it as a patcher that adds a 65:24 crop to the GR IV by changing the original firmware.
- GR4-MonoUnlock — The author describes it as a patcher that brings six black-and-white looks from the GR IV Monochrome onto a standard GR IV by changing the original firmware.
- GR IV firmware notes — Research notes on GR IV firmware, plus a custom shutdown picture. The repo says it does not ship an installable modified firmware. It also says some generated scripts can write files on the camera if someone runs them there.
- gr3x-fw-hack — A research repo for reading GR III and GR IIIx firmware on a computer. The author describes exploration, not a firmware file you install on the camera.
- GRsync — A Python script that copies photos from a GR II or GR III over the camera’s Wi-Fi. It does not edit firmware.
- Ricoh GR Image Tagger — A desktop app that reads a JPEG’s image tone and writes it as a tag on the computer. The author says GR IV is the body they have checked. Other GR bodies are not.
- GR live view on a StickS3 — A wireless live view and shutter remote. The custom firmware runs on an M5Stack StickS3, not as a replacement for the camera’s own firmware. The author marks some bodies as still short of a full retest.
