Ricoh announced GR WORLD on July 15, 2025, scheduling the free smartphone application for July 23 through the App Store and Google Play. Its initial feature set covered camera registration and naming, browsing and importing pictures over wireless LAN, album organization and home-screen widgets.[1]
Compatible Bluetooth-equipped cameras could also use remote shutter release, self-timer operation and location transfer from the phone to captured photographs. The GR II did not gain Bluetooth functions: being listed as a supported camera did not mean it offered every feature available on newer models. The announcement listed iOS 16–18 and Android 13–15 as the supported operating-system ranges at launch.[1]
Ricoh released GR III firmware 2.00 and GR IIIx firmware 1.50 on the announcement date to add GR WORLD support, including the corresponding HDF and special versions. The GR II required firmware 1.10 or later.[1][2]
Update — July 23, 2025: Ricoh’s official version history records the release of GR WORLD 1.0.0, confirming availability after the earlier announcement.[3]
