Ricoh formally announced the GR IV Monochrome on January 15, 2026, with a February 13 Japanese release. Development had already been disclosed in 2025; the January announcement supplies the complete product details and launch arrangements.[1][2]
The camera uses a dedicated approximately 25.74MP APS-C monochrome CMOS sensor without a color-filter array, recording luminance directly. Its 28mm-equivalent F2.8 lens is paired with a switchable built-in red filter to strengthen monochrome contrast in scenes such as skies.[1]
Other key features include five-axis stabilization, ISO 160–409600 and an electronic shutter up to 1/16000 second. The distinction is its dedicated monochrome imaging structure, rather than an additional black-and-white processing effect for a color GR IV. The Japanese date does not establish simultaneous availability in every market.
