GR IV Monochrome and HDF development confirmed in October
Ricoh announced two GR IV derivatives, separating dedicated monochrome imaging from highlight diffusion.

Ricoh issued separate development announcements for the GR IV Monochrome and GR IV HDF on October 21, 2025. Both were based on the GR IV already on sale, but pursued different forms of image expression: dedicated black-and-white capture and switchable highlight diffusion.[1][2]
The Monochrome was described as the first GR-series model developed specifically for monochrome photography. Ricoh confirmed a new monochrome-only image sensor, a dedicated lens unit and tailored Image Control options. Availability was planned for spring 2026, with pricing undecided. That was a development target rather than a specific retail release date.[1]
The HDF model incorporated Ricoh’s Highlight Diffusion Filter, allowing photographers to switch between the normal sharp rendering and softer highlights. Ricoh targeted winter 2025 or later, again without announcing a price. This followed the HDF approach introduced in the GR III HDF and GR IIIx HDF in 2024.[2]
Exterior development samples of both cameras were scheduled for display at GR SPACE TOKYO from October 23. These notices established development plans; full product announcements and confirmed sales arrangements would be separate stages.[1][2]
