PENTAX firmware updates improve Astrotracer tracking accuracy
K-1 bodies, J limited 01, KF and K-70 received maintenance on December 5 with different version numbers.

Ricoh released firmware updates for several PENTAX DSLR bodies on December 5, 2025. The shared change improves star-tracking accuracy under a specified Astrotracer setting, alongside general operating stability.[1][2][3][4]
The K-1 and K-1 Mark II/J limited 01 updates carry version 2.51. The KF moves to 1.33, while the K-70 receives 1.16. Each camera family has its own download and installation instructions; matching version numbers on the K-1 bodies do not make files interchangeable.[1][2][3][4]
The tracking correction applies when “2 Type 2” is selected in the custom-menu setting for Bulb shooting behavior. That is item 6 of menu C on the K-1 family and item 7 on the KF and K-70. Ricoh describes an accuracy improvement to an existing function, without announcing new sensor hardware, lenses or a new paid astrophotography feature in this release.[1][2][3][4]
The support pages explain how to check the installed firmware and update through an SD card. They state that earlier changes are included and that returning to an older version is not possible after installation. Owners should use the page and power requirements for their particular camera.[1][2][3][4]
