Ricoh announced the PENTAX Papilio III WR binoculars on October 24, 2025, offering 6.5×21 and 8.5×21 versions. The Japanese release date was set for November 14, with suggested prices of ¥26,000 and ¥28,000 respectively, before tax.[1]
Both models focus to approximately 50cm. A convergence-correction mechanism moves the objective lenses with the focusing distance to improve the viewing experience at close range. This supports observation of insects, plants and museum exhibits, alongside conventional binocular uses such as birdwatching and sports.[1]
Papilio III WR is the first Papilio generation to add a weather-resistant construction. Ricoh also applies an anti-stain coating to the eyepieces and front flat-glass surfaces. The announcement describes protection against rain and splashes, without presenting the binoculars as equipment for underwater use.[1]
Both versions use 21mm objectives, 15mm eye relief and weigh approximately 295g. The optical design includes aspherical elements, BaK4 prisms and HD Coating on selected elements. Black and olive finishes were announced; the olive version in Japan was limited to official online stores and PENTAX Clubhouse. Ricoh said Papilio II sales would continue for the time being.[1]
